User Roles & Permissions

Roles and permissions control what each user in your AVLView account can see and do. A user's access is a combination of the role you give them and the groups they belong to.

How to set a user's permissions

1. Assign the user a role — Owner, Admin, Operator, or Observer.
2. Add the user to one or more groups, or limit them to specific groups.
3. Open that group's Permissions tab.
4. Apply a template (Operator, Observer, or Admin) as a starting point, or set permissions manually.
5. Fine-tune View, Edit, Create, and Delete for each capability, then save.

Roles and permission controls

• Role — every user has one: Owner, Admin, Operator, or Observer. The role sets their baseline level of access.
• Group membership — a user can be limited to specific groups, so they only work with the vehicles and users in those groups.
• Permissions tab — on each group, set View, Edit, Create, and Delete for every capability, including Map View, Reports, Vehicle/User Management, and Settings.
• Templates — apply an Operator, Observer, or Admin template to fill in a full set of permissions at once, then adjust as needed.

Frequently asked questions

How is a user's effective permission decided?

A user's effective permissions come from their role combined with their group memberships. The role sets the baseline, and the Permissions tab on each group they belong to determines exactly what they can view, edit, create, or delete.
