KMVD’s AIS 140 guideline in Kerala
Following up with KMVD’s first phase of AIS 140 initiatives on implementing VTUs (Vehicle Tracking Units) in 18,000+ school buses across the state of Kerala, the department has already hurdled a few steps ahead by empanelling the devices and inspecting the registered agencies/franchisees (VTU vendors/GPS tracking service providers).

In response to AIS 140 standards set forth by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (KMVD) released an overview of its AIS 140 implementation plans in Kerala at a pre-empanelment meeting held at Transport Commissioner Office, Thiruvananthapuram on 16th May 2018. Many executives in the Telematics industry attended the meeting.

AIS 140: for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in India
Automotive Industry Standard 140 (AIS 140) is a set of standards published by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) designed to build an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) specifically tailored to gain total control over public transportation system in India.
To comply with the AIS 140 guidelines every commercial vehicle (with yellow number plate) will need to have a real-time Navic/GPS tracking system with emergency request buttons (panic/SOS buzzer).
